Democracy works when we do the work.

Local Democrats matter because they are where democracy actually lives or dies. Not in Washington. In counties, school boards, city halls, and party committees—places like Curry County. HERE'S WHY:

Why Local Democrats Matter

  • Recruit candidates

  • Encourage people to step up

  • Provide training, data, volunteers, and credibility

If local Democrats are weak, good people never run—and bad actors face no competition. Strong local parties mean strong democratic choices.

They protect elections at the ground level

Democracy isn’t defended by speeches—it’s defended by:

  • Poll workers

  • Observers

  • County Clerks

  • Election Boards

  • Volunteers who show up when someone challenges results

Local Democrats are the first line of defense against voter suppression, intimidation, and election denial. If those institutions fall locally, national democracy collapses.

They decide who even gets to run

Before voters ever see a ballot,
local party organizations:

They build the future bench.

Every:

  • State Rep

  • Secretary of State

  • Member of Congress

  • Governor

... started locally

If Democrats don’t win and govern locally, there is no pipeline to higher office. That’s how authoritarian movements take over—by winning the small offices first.

They are the firewall against minority rule.

Authoritarianism depends on:

  • Low turnout

  • Disengaged communities

  • One-party control of local government

Local Democrats organize people who would otherwise be isolated or ignored. They turn frustration into participation. That’s how you stop extremism from becoming "normal."

When most voters think of Democrats, we are working for that vision to be:

  • The person running the food drive

  • The neighbor organizing a town hall

  • The local candidate knocking on their door

If local Democrats are visible, helpful, and rooted in community, the party gains trust. If they disappear, misiinformation fills the vacuum.

  • The party that values truth and transparency

  • The party supporting working people

  • The party that is working to improve health care, housing and education for our citizens

They shape what “Democrat” means to real people
